What Results Can I Expect From My Designated Substance Survey (DSS)?
Along with identifying present designated substances, a Designated Substance Survey can also detail their quantity, condition, and location. A Designed Substance Surveys helps you map the appropriate steps required in order to control levels of exposure for individuals working within and around the project area.
Designated Substance Survey Information
The Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act has made it a requirement for any project site in Harrow, and throughout Ontario, to complete a full list of designated substances found within their Harrow / Ontario building. This list of designated substances is to be made readily available to individuals who will be present in and around the building, as well as provided to bidders at the tendering stage.
When there are designated substances in poor condition in your Harrow building, individuals performing work inside of the building, along with individuals found within the immediate area, are put in harms way. Eleven substances now have a ‘designated’ status in the Province of Ontario, benzene, isocyanates, vinyl chloride, mercury, silica, acrylonitrile, lead, arsenic, coke oven emissions, ethylene oxide, and asbestos. It is important to note that of those designated substances, there are four that are more often found within the building materials of homes, offices, and commercial buildings in Harrow: Mercury, Silica, Lead, and Asbestos.
